The scope and sequence was adapted from the well-reviewed research of Donald R. Bear, Marcia Invernizzi, Shane Templeton, Francine Johnston, and Wiley Blevins.

One license may be used per teacher. For example, if a Kindergarten license is purchased, one Kindergarten teacher may use the materials. Even if a K-2 license is purchased, this license is still good for only one teacher. If it is detected that more than one teacher is using a license, access to the materials will be revoked immediately, as this is a violation of federal DMCA law.

The teacher lesson plans, family letters, and several of the games are editable. Other materials that contain graphics are not editable due to copyright laws.

Student workbooks are not available. However, we do offer spiral bound hard copies of all materials for teacher use. Teachers may make copies of student materials using the spiral bound book for each unit.

Current license holders may purchase hard copies of each grade level and unit by logging in to the From Sounds to Spelling portal and clicking the "ORDER HARD COPIES" button on the sidebar.

Yes! Since phonological awareness and phonics are so closely linked, it makes the most sense to use a program that teaches both. You would not need to purchase a separate phonological awareness program (though if you already have one that you love, you can certainly continue to use it alongside From Sounds to Spelling).

Yes! Since schools vary widely in this area, the high frequency words aspect of the program was built to be extremely flexible. You will still be able to fully use the program materials regardless of what list you use.

It’s possible, yes - just be aware that this scope and sequence is based on research, and if you go out of order, students may encounter phonics patterns in the decodable texts that they have not yet learned.

Yes! Students’ decoding abilities are almost always more advanced than their encoding (spelling) abilities. As students encounter words in text, you can absolutely discuss and do a little teaching on the phonics pattern. Then, do more in-depth instruction (and focus on spelling) when the pattern comes up in the scope and sequence.

"From Sounds to Spelling” is a comprehensive program that includes professional development videos. With your license, you get access to a special portal where you can log in, watch videos, and quickly access everything you need from any device. TeachersPayTeachers.com does not offer such a platform.

No; this program contains no duplicates or overlapping materials. However, it can easily be used alongside other Learning At The Primary Pond literacy materials.

No. Some skills are covered in multiple grade levels by necessity (students often need to review them), but the actual materials are unique to each grade level.

Yes! Although this program is designed to serve as a complete phonics program in itself, the professional development videos, decodable texts, games, and other activities can supplement another program.
